Who is the force behind the "Everything Pantry" Website?
1. A:  Renee Matt is an Iowa farmwife and a kitchen designer in a past life.  She's been through three remodels and lives for home improvement.

I'm confused, your links show "dream-kitchen-pantry.com" - are you also "Everything Pantry.com"?
2. A:  Yes!  Dream-Kitchen-Pantry.com  is to make the search engines happy, EverythingPantry.com is easier for visitors to remember.  Both addresses will get you to the same place.

We want to convert an old coat closet to a china cabinet in a 1907 house.  Any ideas on where we could get information on what that sort of cabinet would have looked like in 1907?
4. A:
I am not an expert on 1900's houses.  The houses I have been in with built-ins for early 1900 houses in Iowa have followed a similar pattern:  Lead glass
doors for display on top, a space between the top and base units for a
work/serving area.  I think the door-drawer arrangement was defined by the
user.  I most definitely believe they all had at least one set of drawers
with either more below or a set of doors.

Try the search term: "built-it china cabinet" in Google as an image
search.  If you are not familiar with images searches, go to
www.google.com and in the upper left of the page will be the word "images"
- click on the search to do as you normally would, but you you will
receive images back from your search.

Another option is to talk to your neighbors - houses of the same period
may have built-in furniture that would give clues to how you should
proceed.  Many older people would have grown up in houses with built-ins -
chat with them or people from a local historical society.  There may be a
chat room online for people renovating old homes.

Where is a good place for a walk-in pantry?
5. A:  Ideally, the pantry should always be
located close to the kitchen to save steps.  You are walking to the pantry
to retrieve food items for food preparation and perhaps small appliances.

That said, a remodel is about compromise.  Small homeowners are creative
about pantry placement.  It may be storage shelves in a garage, basement
or canned goods under the sofa in the living room.  There are no
hard-and-fast rules.  In the photo gallery of my website, there is even
open-shelving for pantry storage within the kitchen.

Walk-in pantries with decorative/non-decorative doors seem to be very
popular.  This gives the illusion of a less cluttered kitchen.  Consider
having a walk-in pantry with countertop (if space allows).  What a
strategy putting your groceries on the counter for a gathering ready to
go, yet your guests walk-in to a spotless kitchen.  My website also
discusses walk-in pantries serving double-duty for calendar centers and
other clutter-prone sites.

I'm nervous about buying a large pantry cabinet online.  Do you have any advice?

6. A:  This is understandable.  Why would you buy online?  Choices, convenience, comparison shopping.  Specialty items such as pantry cabinets are not going to have a plentiful selection like recliner chairs in a local store.  Browse the internet and find just the right one to fit your needs.  If you were to buy locally, you would still need to have it delivered to your door, the same as an online purchase.  Shipping costs are absorbed into the price of the furniture you see in a bricks-and-mortar store (they are still passing shipping on to you).  Additionally, protect yourself by checking out what other web customers' experience has been with the company you want to purchase from.

TESTIMONIAL from a business associate:

"I don't own a truck or know anyone that does. Getting furniture shipped is the best thing since Billy discovered chocolate.

I was in a store (REMOVED) and saw this awesome coffee table that pops up and is great for the laptop when I want to use it in the living room. I tried to move it in the store and said to myself the only way I would buy this is if they shipped it.

Went home -found a coupon- ordered and in a day or so it was in my living room. Didn't hurt my back at all since I didn't carry the dang thing."
